The Beauty of Santo Niño de Cebu is a blog that shares and explores the Beauty in this image who is no other than Christ. Aside from the Sacred Scriptures, Tradition and Magisterium, Christ also reveals Himself for Filipino Catholics in the beauty of the image, songs, dances and other popular devotions to their beloved Santo Niño.
My interest in the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu started when I was still growing up as a little kid in my hometown of Surigao City. I could still remember how we used to pray as a family before the image of the Santo Niño. Whenever we have problems in the family or whenever we receive special blessings, we always go to our small altar at home to pray before the Santo Niño. The image of the Santo Niño has been part of my life that I would claim that my vocation as an Augustinian priest is a gift of the merciful God who became like us in the image of the Santo Niño. This interest grew more when I entered the Augustinian seminary because there I learned that the Augustinians are the caretakers of this image which have been a very important part of my faith. And when I was already in the seminary, I discovered that this devotion is not only a devotion that is important to me and my family. I realized that it is a devotion that is special to millions of people especially the Filipinos for almost five hundred years.
I would like to understand more this devotion and to know more Jesus who is the Beauty in the image of the Santo Niño. I would like also to learn how to read the Gospel of the Child Jesus written in the image, colors, melodies, and graceful prayer dances of the devotees to the Santo Niño. And with this knowledge, I hope to translate my faith into a faith that makes a difference in the lives of other people especially the poor and marginalized.
This is the reason behind the creation of this blog.
I would like to invite you to join me in this journey. Your comments and feedback will be very helpful.
Pit Señor!
